I think my Mini Rex rabbit is pregnant!

by Vyckie

My female Mini Rex rabbit just mated with a mini lop rabbit. I'm very worried that my rabbit won't make it through the pregnancy, should I worry about this at all? I really need advice on this, this is my first. and I don't want anything to go wrong. my rabbit is my best friend, she does everything with me. :(

How did it go??
by: Anonymous

Hi there, I know this is a very old post but I am just wondering how the birth went. I am in exactly the same situation. I'm worried because of the different size and shape of the rex and lop heads and scared this will make the birth hard on her. I know that you don't breed a large bull over a small cow, same thing with sheep and dogs and I'm guessing it is the same for rabbits.

Hey

I've got a pregnant rabbit too. No, it doesn't kill her unless she is old. Just make sure she has food and water at all times, a nesting box on day 28, and she'll do the rest. Make sure the nesting box is big enough for her and the babies.

Instincts will guide your pregnant rabbit
by: Karen

You haven't said if you have any reasons for your fears. Are you afraid the doe won't know what to do? That the pregnancy will kill her? That you won't know how to take care of her through the pregnancy and care of the bunnies?

The bad news is this - that things don't always go just right in every situation (not just rabbits).

But the good, no, great news is that rabbits come with built-in instincts. Left to herself and given access to everything she needs (for example, in the wild), she'll dig herself a burrow and do a great job at raising the baby rabbits.

It's no different in captivity, because domestic rabbits take very well to human intervention. The Breeding Rabbits page on Raising-Rabbits.com will link you to info about every step of caring for the doe and the bunnies, so you'll know what to do to properly care for her. And the doe will do the rest.

We can't promise that nothing bad will happen to the doe, but we have tried to give you all the info you need to do a great job taking care of her!

Good luck, and mark your calendar - nestbox in on day 28....

Karen
