Hare Happiness: Bunny Branola!

What your Rabbit Needs to Know about Pumpkin Spice

It's that time of year again - Pumpkin Spice everything!!!

As the leaves fall, you think about snuggling in your favorite comfy sweater with your rabbit, enjoying lovely pumpkin spice.

But before you share your favorite autumn indulgence, you might like to know that out of the five core ingredients of a typical pumpkin spice mix - pumpkin, cinnamon, clove, ginger, and nutmeg - two of them (nutmeg and cloves) are toxic to rabbits. But don't worry - we're keeping your bunnies safe!

Pumpkin Spice Bunny Branola has been specially formulated for your rabbits' enjoyment and good health. It's made in small batches with natural ingredients. We offer it in several sizes, and WITHOUT nutmeg or cloves.

Breed of the Month: Blue Holicer

The October Breed of the Month is the Blue Holicer Rabbit, an azure delight from Czechoslovakia via Canada. This charming little Czech was originally developed behind the Iron Curtain in 1950 by Imrich Vanek.

The breed was recognized by the Central Committee of the Slovak Small Breeders’ Association in 1975 and then by the Club of Rabbit Breeders of the Slovak Breeds and Rex in 1993. In his native Czech Language, the Blue Holicer is called "Holičský modrý, after his hometown of Holic, and modry is Czech for blue.

A Canadian breeder, Frank Nutar, persuaded the Eastern Bloc Bunny to defect to Canada with promises of maple dipped treats, so the furry little Comrade became a Canuck. The Blue Holicer is social media savvy, making its ARBA debut in 2021 via Zoom. (Great things happen when bunny doesn't chew the spicy hay-computer cables.) It became official when ARBA recently recognized the breed in 2023, at its Diamond Anniversary 100th convention.

Naturally, the blue bunny has his own fan base, the Blue Holicer Rabbit Club(Note: All Holicer photos used with permission.)

The beautiful medium blue color covers the entire length of the fur shafts, extending also to the blue whiskers and toenails! (That must save a fortune on nail polish.)

Due to its development so far from North America, Blue Holicer fur has a unique shade of blue, along with elasticity. It is a brighter steel color, darker than Lilac, but lighter than typical American blue.

The Blue Holicer is a medium-sized rabbit with a stocky, upright cylindrical body, thickly furred ears, ultra dense medium steel blue fur, and an adult weight range of 5 1/2 to 7 1/4 pounds.

Blue Holicers are still media divas, with great Youtube videos showing their best sides....

New Year, New School Semester

As the Winter/Spring semesters begin, you get a whole syllabus of new assignments. Your teacher tells you, “Start thinking about your topics for your essays now!”

Teachers have seen the same subjects rehashed for years and even decades, so they love new topics. Some teachers even give a list of topics that students aren’t allowed to pick because they are tired of seeing them.

Trail Life for Boys and American Heritage Girls

Maybe you are a homeschool family, and you want to fulfill science credits with a different animal, from basic care to genetics. Do you belong to a scouting organization such as Trail Life for Boys or American Heritage Girls, and want to earn your pet care badges? Maybe you are in 4-H or FFA, and you want a lot of information in one easy place.

What if you could make your work stand out with unique material - about RABBITS!

There are dozens of recognized breeds, and they come in a huge range of colors, patterns, and sizes! From the tiny Netherland Dwarfs that share clothes with large hamsters, to the Giants that stop people dead in their tracks -- “I thought that was a dog!” -- rabbits come in a huge variety. You could spend your entire semester on rabbit essays, never repeat a single fact, giving your teachers new information that they will actually enjoy reading.

Raising-Rabbits has hundreds of pages of information, plus our books and e-books go into even more detail.

If you need pictures for your topic, just contact us for permission to use ours. Ask - we had a veterinary student in Finland use one of our pictures for her doctoral thesis. A college professor in Australia used our pictures for his lecture on rabbit dental health.

Make those top grades by covering rabbit information!

Raising-Rabbits Books provide nearly everything you need to know about rabbits.
