Well, Anon, you are right, it is very important to know the local laws.

I am not familiar with USDA laws in Hawaii, but in the mainland, the USDA does seem to be very interested in how rabbits are handled and processed for human consumption.

On the other hand, they are not interested in the processing of rabbits for pet consumption. And I will say that rabbit is by far and away much better nutrition for both dogs and cats than the typical bag of kibble, no matter how good they say it is.

Greetings, I'm currently working on starting a rabbit farm for personal consumption as well as possibly selling live rabbits for pets. I live on Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands and we have some rabbits here, but the breed has been mixed. If anyone in Hawaii can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. HAve been concentrating on rabbits for 4H and getting the Big Island Rabbit Club established. Have started the foundation herd and am in the midst of planning the abattoir and busness plan. Next obstacle Department of Health. As for market, it's there.

Will you be raising meat rabbits for commercial or private use?
